Na noite do domingo, 5 de janeiro de 2020, ocorreu a 77ª edição do Globo de Ouro – premiação que elege o melhor do entretenimento. “1917”, longa de Sam Mendes sobre a Primeira Guerra Mundial levou o Globo de Ouro de Melhor Filme de Drama e Melhor Direção. “História de Um Casamento” que liderava as indicações, acabou levando apenas o prêmio de Melhor Atriz Coadjuvante, pela performance de Laura Dern no longa da Netflix. “Era Uma Vez em… Hollywood” levou três estatuetas.
“Link Perdido” surpreendeu e levou o prêmio de Melhor Filme de Animação, sendo o primeiro longa de stop-motion a vencer na categoria. O longa concorria com “Toy Story 4”, “Frozen 2”, “O Rei Leão” e “Como Treinar o Seu Dragão 3”.
Taron Egerton foi eleito Melhor Ator em Filme de Comédia ou Musical por “Rocketman”, longa sobre a vida de Elton John que ainda venceu na categoria de Melhor Canção Original para a lenda da música.
Joaquin Phoenix levou a estatueta de Melhor Ator em Filme de Drama por sua performance como Coringa, este é o segundo interprete do personagem a vencer o Globo de Ouro, anteriormente o ator Heath Ledger ganhou o prêmio por “Batman: O Cavaleiro das Trevas”. Renée Zellweger levou o prêmio de atriz pelo papel de Judy Garland no filme sobre a vida da atriz e cantora.
Confirmando o favoritismo, “Fleabag” levou o Globo de Ouro de Melhor Série de Comédia ou Musical e Melhor Atriz em Série de Comédia ou Musical. “Succession” surpreendeu e levou dois prêmios nas categorias de séries dramáticas. Olivia Colman levou o único Globo de Ouro de “The Crown”. Nas categorias de séries limitadas, “Chernobyl” levou duas, incluindo Melhor Série. Michelle Williams ganhou como atriz por “Fosse/Verdon”, enquanto Russell Crowe venceu como ator por “The Loudest Voice”.
